Benson, longtime editor of The Eagle, laid off

Darren Benson

Lee Enterprises, which owns the Texas-based Bryan-College Station Eagle, has laid of the paper’s editor Darren Benson and will outsource the job to its sister paper, the Waco Tribune-Herald.

Benson started at the paper in 2006 as city editor. He moved on to become managing editor, and then editor.

Following the changes, The Eagle newsroom’s advertising teams will remain at The Eagle and both The Eagle and the Waco Tribune-Herald will continue covering their local communities under the helm of Steve Boggs, editor of the Herald-Tribune.

Other business operations such as ad sales will continue to be managed locally.
