BBC’s McIntosh appointed editor of The Scotsman

Neil McIntosh

Neil McIntosh, who has been managing editor of BBC Online for the past 7 years, has been named editor of The Scotsman as JPI Media reverts to separate editors for its key titles.

McIntosh has also worked at The Wall Street Journal for more than 4 years, joining as editor, WSJ.com Europe. He launched a new Europe edition of wsj.com, offering a European view of the WSJ world. He then became deputy editor, Europe, responsible for broad day-to-day and strategic operations for digital and print editions during a time of expansion for the WSJ Europe franchise.

He was also head of editorial development at Guardian News and Media and was with Guardian Unlimited, London, for more than 7 years, joining as an online deputy editor and then serving as an assistant editor.

He was also duty editor at Teletext, Daily Mail General Trust. He also worked freelance which included feature writing and sub-editing for various newspapers and broadcasters in Scotland, including the Scotsman, Herald, BBC Radio Scotland, and the Scottish Daily Express.

His work included a weekly column on the emerging world of the internet, which was published in the Scotsman between 1997 and 1999.

He was also sub-editor of Edinburgh Evening News.

McIntosh holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Edinburgh Napier University and a M.B.A. from The Open University.
