BBC has tapped Gordon Smart to host BBC Radio 5 Live’s late-night show, which airs Monday to Thursday 10 p.m. -1 a.m.
Smart will continue to present his Sunday show, which airs 8-10 p.m. He joined BBC in July 2022 as a radio presenter.
Commenting on his new role, Smart said:
“I am thrilled to be given the weeknights gig on 5 Live. It has been such a privilege working with the hugely talented team here over the last 18 months.
“The welcome I’ve been given from staff and listeners has been really special and I’m really looking forward to getting to know them even better. I love the station and have been a huge fan for a long time. I can’t wait to get stuck in alongside some of the best in the business.”
He has also worked as a news anchor at ITV and the host/executive producer at News UK.
He worked at Global for more than four years as a radio presenter. He also held the posts of deputy showbiz editor, showbiz editor and deputy editor at The Sun. He served as editor of The Scottish Sun.
An award-winning journalist and broadcaster, Smart has a B.A. in journalism from Napier University in Scotland.
