The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has tapped Andrew Morse to serve as its president and publisher. He joins at a time when local news is suffering with more than 2500 newspapers shutting down across the US over the last two decades.

In his new role, Morse succeeds Donna Hall, who retired as publisher last year after spending more than three decades at Cox Enterprises, owner of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Morse said he planned to work with Axios, which Cox acquired last year, to expand the company’s business.

He was executive VP and chief digital officer at CNN Worldwide and the head of the now shuttered CNN+. Under his leadership, CNN became the world’s top source of digital news and information, attracting more than 200 million unique users each month.

Before that, Morse headed Bloomberg Television and spent 15 years at ABC News in various executive and TV production roles.

Morse graduated from Cornell University.
