Justin Myers, a veteran data journalist who has been with The Associated Press for 6 years has been promoted to the role of data editor at the company. Previously, he held the post of data journalist and automation editor at AP.
In this role, Myers will manage the data analysts on the data team and oversee the team’s data-driven collaborations with reporters and editors across AP and its partner news organizations.
He is also part of a group of AP journalists across the world who act as “inclusion champions,” ensuring that the company’s journalism contains voices from all corners of society and serves a variety of audiences.
Previously, Myers worked as a news interactive producer with the data and interactives team at The Chronicle of Higher Education. He was also a news developer at PBS NewsHour. Myers also worked at Columbia Missourian for more than a year, joining as a copy editor.
He then became information graphic designer and then served as 1A designer, before holding the post of assistant news editor.
He was also a researcher at PRIME Lab and held numerous roles, including assistant production manager, senior staff writer/staff photographer/graphic designer/copy editor, assistant online editor and online development editor at The Maneater.
He has also held the posts of health/science/environment reporter and copy editor at Columbia Missourian and LifeWire, respectively.
Myers is a B.S. and B.J. in Electrical Engineering and Print and Digital News from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
