AP names Ahmed VP of news for digital platforms

Saeed Ahmed will join The Associated Press as VP of news for digital platforms.

“In this senior leadership role, Saeed will lead our efforts to deepen engagement with audiences on APNews, social media and other emerging digital platforms, with the goal of bringing AP’s world class journalism to more people, in more modern ways,” reports The Associated Press.

Ahmed begins Feb. 6. Initially he will commute between New York and Washington while he wraps up a teaching stint at Georgetown University.

Recently, he served as head of digital journalism at BBC News. He was director of digital news at NPR and an educational consultant at Poynter Institute.

He worked at CNN for more than 13 years in various roles, including multimedia producer. He also served as senior editor and assistant managing editor for CNN Digital. At the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ahmed was a general assignment reporter and a Pulitzer Prize finalist, along with the breaking news team.

Ahmed graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta.
