The Associated Press has promoted Nomaan Merchant to U.S. politics editor to provide nonpartisan coverage of U.S. politics and elections. He begins Aug. 21.
Merchant has been with the APress for more than a decade, recently serving as a reporter on intelligence and national security in the Washington bureau. Before that, he covered immigration and labor, and criminal justice. He has also worked for the Beijing bureau.
Merchant has a B.S. in journalism and political science from Northwestern University.
