Al-Monitor has tapped Amberin Zaman to serve as chief correspondent, based in London. In her new role, she will cover stories on the Middle East and North Africa.
Zaman has also reported on geopolitical trends, diplomacy and human rights. Regarding her new role, she said:
“I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and the freedom to do the kind of journalism that I believe in.”
She joined in December 2018 as a senior correspondent covering MENA. Before that, she was a Turkey correspondent at The Economist, where she worked for 17 years.
She also contributed to The Washington Post, The Daily Telegraph, Los Angeles Times and Voice of America.
