Al Jazeera is launching “Rightly,” a new digital platform aimed at individuals who feel left out of mainstream media.
Scott Norvell has been appointed editor-in-chief, reports Politico.
Norvell has more than 20 years of global news media experience providing vision and management for major industry brands.
Currently, he is the chief operating officer and co-founder of Screen Anthology LLC, a production studio that produces original, premium scripted episodic content for a new generation.
He has also served as COO, NewsCore/News Corp. He is also a Fox News Channel veteran, having joined in 1996 as Miami bureau chief and then serving as London bureau chief. In 2000, he was executive editor of Foxnews.com and in 2002 was named New York bureau chief and then vice president, news.
Prior to Fox, Norvell was a senior editor at CNN. He has also worked as a freelancer covering general and financial news in Central America for Time, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Journal of Commerce, the Miami Herald, McGraw Hill Inc. and others.
He has also reported as a freelancer on general and financial news in the Southeast United States for Time Magazine (acting Atlanta Bureau Chief, spring/summer 1994), Fortune, People, The New York Times, The Washington Post Sunday Magazine, Travel & Leisure, Asia Inc. and others.
Additionally, he has also served as a staff writer at Houston Press and Corpus Christi Caller-Times.
Norvell earned his Bachelor’s degree in journalism (photojournalism and news-editorial) from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
