Washington Post names Mahtani international investigative correspondent

Shibani Mahtani

The Washington Post has appointed Shibani Mahtani as an international investigative correspondent, based in Singapore. She begins Nov. 1.

Mahtani served as Southeast Asia bureau chief, responsible for coverage of Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. Previously, she was a Midwest reporter for the Wall Street Journal, focused on law enforcement and criminal justice.

She also reported on general and financial news in Southeast Asia while based in Singapore and later Yangon, where she was the Journal’s first Myanmar-based correspondent. She interned at Guardian News & Media and The Associated Press.

Mahtani has a BSc. from The London School of Economics and Political Science and a M.S. from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
