The following excerpt was sent out from The Washington Post’s deputy features editor Mitch Rubin and lifestyle editor Jenny Rogers:

We are thrilled to announce Marisa Kashino will join The Washington Post’s new home initiative, The Home You Own.

After a successful two-month experiment last year, The Home You Own will officially launch this fall as a service-oriented, vibrant line of coverage aimed at empowering readers to make smart decisions about the way they live in their spaces. THYO will tackle questions big, small and existential about maintaining a home — from cleaning to furnishing to gardening, and the ways those intersect with the environment, our finances, our mental health and our relationships.

The project will live within the Lifestyle team in the Features department, and its staff will work alongside the current Home team, which has already found success experimenting with service journalism.

Leading THYO is editor Marisa Kashino. Marisa comes to The Post from Washingtonian, where, as senior editor, she managed the magazine’s real-estate and home-design coverage and many of its cover packages, and wrote long-form features. Her work included an exhaustive insider’s guide to home renovations and an examination of the pandemic real-estate boom.

Previously, as a reporter for Legal Times and the National Law Journal, she covered courts, big law and federal agencies, and spent time reporting in Kabul.

Marisa grew up near Seattle and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in journalism and political science.

Please welcome Marisa, who started on Aug. 1.
