Texas Tribune announces changes in newsroom

The Texas Tribune has tapped Ayan Mittra as senior managing editor, Darla Cameron as managing editor for visual journalism, Chris Essig as editor of data visuals, and Todd Wiseman as senior editor, video and multimedia.

Mittra was recently an editor at the Texas Tribune. Before that, he was at The Dallas Morning News for 11 years, where he worked as a copy editor/assistant political editor/web editor and then as an editor. He has also interned at The Kansas City Star. Mittra graduated from The University of Texas at Austin.

Cameron recently served as a data visuals editor, and before that, as a senior designer/developer. She was also an interactive graphics editor at The Washington Post and has worked at The Tampa Bay Times, The Poynter Institute, and the Columbia Missourian. Cameron is a University of Missouri-Columbia graduate.

Previously, Essig served as deputy data visuals editor, and before that, as a data visuals developer. He was also an interactive news developer at The Gazette Company, now known as Folience in Iowa. He was also an online editor at Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier in Iowa and a cops and courts reporter at The Register-Mail in Illinois. Essig graduated from Eastern Illinois University.

Wiseman recently served as managing editor, video. In his new role, he and his team will be doing more documentary-style narratives and he will be part of a broader, ongoing discussion about audio strategy.
