NY Times selects Abi-Habib as next Mexico City bureau chief

Maria Abi-Habib, one of the New York Times International Desk’s investigative reporters, has been tapped the company’s next Mexico City bureau chief, taking the reins from current bureau chief Azam Ahmed.

Her new role will begin early next year.

Abi-Habib has been with the Times for the past 3 years. Previously, she was at the Wall Street Journal for 7 years, joining as an Afghanistan correspondent. Later on, she was made Middle East correspondent at the Journal.

She has also worked as a roaming reporter throughout the Gulf states for the Journal and Dow Jones Newswires.

Abi-Habib earned her Bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from Concordia University.
