The New York Times has tapped Allison Benedikt to serve as a senior editor for Times Opinion. As per the Times:

“Allison will serve as a senior editor in the department, helping to direct coverage across the report, both on a day-to-day and strategic level. Her first priority will be working closely with Patrick and me on identifying and actualizing opportunities and goals to enhance and elevate our work across the department. She will also be a key partner to Opinion Audio, assisting in the search for a new executive producer and working closely with them to ensure they have a successful transition. She’ll have a hand in our Op-Ed operation as well, helping us pursue ambitious ideas and take bigger swings that harness the strengths of each team in Opinion.”

Recently, Benedikt was executive editor of Slate, where she worked for more than nine years. Before that, she served as a news director and senior editor.

She was a film editor at Village Voice Media and a writer/editor at the Chicago Tribune.

Benedikt graduated from the University of Michigan.
