The following was sent out from The Washington Post’s sports editor Matt Vita and sports deputy editor Matt Rennie:
We are very excited to announce that Joan Niesen will be joining The Post as an assignment editor in Sports overseeing coverage of the Washington Commanders and the NFL.
Joan comes to us from the Athletic, where she oversees two NBA beat writers and helps with editing, shaping coverage and special projects across the NBA desk. Before that, Joan wrote for Sports Illustrated, where she produced features, columns and analysis for the magazine and SI.com on sports that included pro football, MLB, the NHL, golf and the WNBA.
She has also covered the Denver Broncos as a beat writer for the Denver Post and was an NBA writer at FoxSports.com.
Joan was born and raised in St. Louis and has an undergraduate degree in economics from Georgetown University and a master’s in journalism from the University of Missouri.
When she’s not at her computer, she enjoys cooking, reading and attempting to garden. She is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown, where she teaches an undergraduate course on sports journalism.
Please join us in welcoming Joan to The Post. She starts July 11.
Be sure to congratulate Niesen via her Twitter page.
