Lisa Schwarz, the St. Cloud Times’ news director and long-time editor and leader of the newsroom, has announced she will move on to a new role as Director of Development and Communications for the Minnesota Newspaper Association and Minnesota News Media Institute.

“I’ve spent 31 years of my life working in community journalism because I believe that it is a bedrock tenet of American life,” Schwarz said. “It’s important to build good communities. It’s important to ensure good government. It’s important to create the first draft of history for cities and towns all over the country, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to continue to serve in a different way in supporting the 250-plus members of the Minnesota Newspaper Association at the Capitol (and) in education. It’s gratifying to be able to continue that work.

Schwarz has dedicated almost 20 years to the St. Cloud Times, joining the team in 2003 as night city editor after spending 10 years as editor of the Faribault Daily News and regional editor for Huckle Publishing Inc.’s southern Minnesota news group. She moved through several leadership roles at the Times before being named news director in 2016. Schwarz was elected to the Minnesota Newspaper Association Board of Directors in 2019.
