Marshall Project hires Hing as data reporter

The Marshall Project has tapped Geoffrey Hing as a data reporter. Hing joins the Pulitzer Prize-winning nonprofit newsroom from The Arizona Republic, where he was a data and demographics reporter.

Hing officially begins on July 5.

Previously, he was a data reporter for APM Reports at American Public Media Group and  a senior news applications developer at the Chicago Tribune Media Group.

David Eads, data editor at The Marshall Project said:

“Geoff brings experience, depth and sensitivity to data reporting that is essential for understanding immense, complex systems like criminal justice. Geoff will help expand our horizons, deepen our understanding, and help build a healthy, skeptical data culture in our newsroom.”

Hing has a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and a master’s degree from Northwestern University.
