Lowenstein leaves Vice for the NY Times

The New York Times has hired Kate Lowenstein as Well’s deputy editor effective Aug. 8.

Lowenstein joins from Vice, where she worked for more than six years, recently as global editor in chief. There, she created and launched Tonic, Vice’s health and science channel, which won various awards.

She served as health director at Prevention magazine, where she oversaw the magazine’s health and science coverage. She held editorial roles at Health magazine, About.com and Time Out New York.

Lowenstein has a B.A. from Yale University.
