    Dear Chris,

An interesting article on your website. I share many of the observations of censorship and hopes for the future expressed by veteran reporters. A problem is that Americans come to “transform” China and in the process get transformed by China. Get-along-and-play-along leads to smugness and corruption. There are double standards: things we don’t do in the U.S. are okay in China because we are in China. I made myself unpopular with a recent column.

I didn’t name names in my column to spare my colleagues the embarrassment, but I can document the cases down to the last detail. It is time for us American journalists to reflect on the moral bankruptcy in our midst.
