Protocol editor in chief Grieve is departing

Tim Grieve

Tim Grieve, the editor in chief of tech news site Protocol, is leaving the site later this month.

“I leave with so much pride in what we’ve built together — and with so much faith in the smart, passionate, caring journalists who will carry it into the future,” he wrote on Twitter.

Grieve previously served as executive editor of Protocol. Grieve has also held various leadership roles at Politico, including serving as deputy managing editor, assistant managing editor, managing editor. He was also the founding editor-in-chief of Politico Pro. He left Politico in 2013 to serve as editor-in-chief of the National Journal.

He then led the news division at McClatchy as head of news strategies and then as vice president of news. Earlier in his career, he has written for Salon Media Group and has reported for The Sacramento Bee.

Grieve has a B.A. from Stanford University, where he was editor-in-chief of the student paper The Stanford Daily.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
