Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following on Wednesday:
Dear all,
I am writing to share that after an incredible 42-year career, Mike Miller will be departing The Wall Street Journal. His last day is Friday, January 16.
Mike’s decades of contributions have made him an essential threat in the fabric of the Journal. He started as a summer intern in New York in 1983 and joined the San Francisco bureau as a reporter covering technology the following year. In 1986, he returned to New York where he has since stayed, covering various beats before moving into an editing role in 1994. Mike was the Journal’s Page One Editor from 2000 to 2007, during which time he helped lead the paper to eight Pulitzer Prizes.
As features editor and senior deputy managing editor since 2007, Mike played a key role in the creation of WSJ’s special sections, including Mansion, Exchange, Off Duty, Review and WSJ. Magazine. Most recently as Senior Editor, Features and WSJ Weekend, he has continued to oversee those sections, as well as Sports and Puzzles. Mike was awarded the 2019 Lawrence Minard Editor Award from the Gerald Loeb Foundation for his excellence in business, financial and economic journalism editing, a highlight in a truly distinguished career.
On a more personal note, I want to thank Mike for his unwavering support, energy and commitment since I joined the Journal.
With this change, I will share additional details about how we will approach these important coverage areas. For now, please join me in congratulating Mike on an outstanding career at the Journal and thanking him for his many contributions.
Emma
