Journalists launch new advisory firm… Five senior financial journalists have launched a new consulting and content firm, Resonate Global Advisors, They are: Nick Evans, who held senior editorial and executive roles at Euroweek, Oliver Hawkins, Euromoney Institutional Investor’s Banking and Finance group publisher, Chris Wright, Asia and Middle East editor of Euromoney, editor of Asiamoney and investment editor of the Australian Financial Review, Jackie Horne, a former producer on the BBC’s flagship radio show Today and a senior editor for HSBC and Nick Lord, an editor with the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C. and a columnist for Barron’s. Politico’s Cali trio… Politico has hired Dustin Gardiner of the San Francisco Chronicle as the new co-author of Golden State politics flagship newsletter. He has also worked at The Arizona Republic for more than a decade. Melanie Mason of the Los Angeles Times has taken on the role of senior political reporter. In her new role, she will cover politics, power and influence in Los Angeles. Lastly, Jeremy B. White has been promoted to senior reporter. In his new role, he will cover the intersection of politics and policy in the California legislature. White has co-authored California Playbook for the past five years.
Arizona TV station hires Bachara as reporter… Gabriella Bachara, a reporter at WDJT-TV Ch. 58, a CBS affiliate in Milwaukee, has left to join NBC’s KPNX-TV Ch. 12 in Mesa, Ariz. as a reporter. Previously, Bachara was a multi-media journalist and reporter at WISC-TV Ch. 3, a CBS- and MyNetworkTV-affiliate in Madison, Wis. She was also a broadcast reporter at Arizona PBS and interned at The E.W. Scripps Company. She’s a graduate of Arizona State University and you can congratulate Bachara on Twitter.
Cleveland ABC station’s anchor/reporter hire… Damon Maloney has joined WEWS-TV Ch. 5, an ABC affiliate in Cleveland, as an anchor and reporter. Recently, he was at CBS station WOIO-TV Ch. 19 in Shaker Heights, Ohio for six years. There, Maloney joined as a reporter/fill-in-anchor and recently held the post of weekday morning anchor/reporter. Before that, he was an anchor and reporter at ABC station WJRT-TV Ch. 12 in Flint, Mich. An Emmy-winning journalist, Maloney graduated from Columbia College Chicago. Detroit NBC station’s Washington departs… Elizabeth Washington has left her post as a digital producer at NBC station WDIV-TV Ch. 4 in Detroit. She wrote on Twitter, “I have decided that after being in media for 5 years I will be taking a break from the industry and putting my mental health first. I love media, and in my time from radio, to lifestyle, to news — I have been blessed with so many great opportunities in such a short period of time. I hope saying goodbye to being in the media field isn’t forever, but for now, it’s got to be a see ya later as new adventures await.” Previously, Washington was a digital producer at Detroit’s ABC station, WXYZ-TV Ch. 7, and worked as a lifestyle producer at WSLS-TV Ch. 10, an NBC affiliate in Roanoke, Va. Fink joins Tucson TV station… Jenna Fink will join KVOA-TV Ch. 4, an NBC affiliate in Tucson, as a sports anchor and reporter. Recently, she was a sports director at KHSL-TV Ch. 12, a CBS and CW Plus affiliate in California, and its sister station KNVN-TV Ch. 24, an NBC and Telemundo outlet. Previously, Fink worked at Citrus TV and interned at stations in New York and Dallas, as well as CNN. ABC appoints Demissie campaign reporter…A BC News has promoted Hannah Demissie to campaign reporter. Recently, she served as a digital journalist. Demissie joined ABC News in July 2020 as a desk assistant/production assistant. She has also held the posts of midterm campaign reporter and digital journalist. ABC promotes another… ABC News has tapped c to serve as a multiplatform reporter. Recently, he served as a reporter. Ganss has been with ABC News for more than 10 years, joining in September 2012 as an intern on “Good Morning America.” Later, he held the posts of anchor producer, writer, “Good Morning America” segment producer, freelance reporter and digital host. Marshall Project hires Dexter as senior development writer… David Dexter has joined The Marshall Project as a senior development writer. “Dexter will lead and execute communications strategy for donor outreach, and also build and strengthen relationships with prospective and existing donors to The Marshall Project,” reports The Marshall Project. “His work will support The Marshall Project President Carroll Bogert, other key executives, and the fundraising team as they raise funds to support the organization. In his new role, he will report to Chief Development Officer Elizabeth Seuling.” Recently, he was at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, where he was a senior development writer. Before that, he was a development writer at Health Care for the Homeless. Dexter has a B.A. from the University of Virginia.
People Magazine appoints Martinez TV writer/reporter… Kelly Martinez has joined People Magazine as a TV writer and reporter. In her new role, she will pitch, write and report three to five digital stories daily, including breaking news. She will also write features and conduct interviews. Recently, Martinez had freelanced for various outlets, including The Daily Beast and Wired. Before that, she was at BuzzFeed News, where she worked for more than three years and held roles including editorial fellow, resident writer, junior staff writer and staff writer. Martinez has a B.S. from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, where she was a copy editor at the student newspaper, Mustang News.
Globe and Mail’s new podcast lead… Alisha Sawhney has joined The Globe and Mail’s Globe Content Studio as a podcast lead. “I’ll be overseeing our podcast strategy to drive revenue both in editorial and branded content,” she wrote on Twitter. “I get to mesh my years as an audience editor with my love for audio storytelling!!!” Recently, Sawhney held the post of audience growth editor. Previously, she worked as an opinion staff editor at The New York Times. Ghisolfi is Houston Chronicle’s new data reporter… The Houston Chronicle has tapped Caroline Ghisolfi to serve as a data reporter. Recently, she was a data journalist at the Austin American-Statesman. Previously, she worked as a data journalism reporter at The Associated Press and as a general assignment reporter at The Miami Herald. She also covered local events, businesses, housing and immigration rights as a local news reporter for the San Francisco Examiner and was a general assignment reporter at The Sacramento Bee. Gross to cover politics for the Financial Times…The Financial Times has tapped Anna Gross to serve as a political correspondent. Giorno joins The Hill as biz and lobbying reporter… Taylor Giorno will join The Hill as a business and lobbying reporter. Recently, she worked as a money-in-politics reporter at OpenSecrets. Previously, Giorno interned at Quincy Institute, where she analyzed the U.S. military budget, foreign lobbying, and restraint-based national security strategy with the Democratizing Foreign Policy team. She was also a research intern at the Center for International Policy.
