Dan Hirschhorn, an experienced editor and digital newsroom leader, has been named editor in chief of Quartz, effective immediately.
Hirschhorn joins Quartz most recently from The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Philadelphia Inquirer, where he oversaw a variety of key editorial and strategic functions at both publications.
As editorial director of Barron’s, Hirschhorn helped lead the digital transformation of the highly influential business publication, overseeing all news and digital operations. In his role as director of news for both Time and Time Inc., he built a cross-brand publishing desk that grew digital audiences for titles that included Time, Fortune, and Money.
Hirschhorn will report to Jim Spanfeller, CEO of parent company G/O Media.
“Quartz is one of the most respected business publications in journalism today, and as we enter a very important economic year, its reporting will be more vital than ever,” said Spanfeller in a statement. “Dan’s proven track record of success will no doubt take this respected brand to new levels of editorial excellence.”
