BuzzFeed has shut down.
The head-turning website that brandished an odd mix of tacky listicles and hard-hitting reporting — and won a Pulitzer Prize for the latter — is “beginning the process of closing” its news division, the company’s founder, Jonah Peretti, said in a memo to employees, per New York Times media reporters Ben Mullin and Katie Robertson. As BuzzFeed never made money, the move was viewed as a necessity and will result in 60 jobs lost.
More on this story as it develops. Kudos to Robertson and to Mullin, who broke the story nearly a year to the day he joined the Times’ media beat.
