OLD Media Moves

A TBN exclusive: Excerpts from Chris Roush’s new book “The Future of Business Journalism”

Chris Roush

Last week, I flew in from Chicago to the Vested headquarters in Manhattan’s Union Square to attend a very special event: the book launch party for Chris Roush’s “The Future of Business Journalism: Why It Matters for Wall Street and Main Street.”

The place was packed. Scribes from the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Business Insider, Investopedia and some of the nation’s most esteemed media outlets attended, a testament to Chris’ special place in this world. In fact, the very publication you are reading, Talking Biz News, owes its existence to Chris Roush. Long before I entered the fold here, I’d heard all about how TBN was a go-to publication for following the media and business journalism moves and news that might otherwise escape notice. (It even covered my own move from a financial services non-profit to a managing editor post in 2019.)

Chris sold every single book he brought to the fete. And no wonder. At this point, he’s authored or co-authored 10 books and serves as dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University. He also served 17 years at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he was Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor, senior associate dean, and director of the master’s program.

And yet, Chris is modest to a fault. It was at my insistence that we run excerpts of his book — and so we will, between Monday, July 18 and Friday, July 22. Please check out these posts, buy the book and in the meantime, be sure to send your congratulations to Chris via his Twitter page

But hey, why wait? Let me start the ball rolling: Congratulations Chris for a splendid achievement and a career of distinction. Yours is a humbling path for any of us in the media to follow.
