WSJ reporter: Doubt I will ever write for print again
Kara Swisher, who has covered the tech industry for The Wall Street Journal, writes on her All Things Digital blog that she doubts she will ever write for a print publication again.
Swisher wrote, “After almost eight months of daily blogging for this site, I think it is safe to say that I will probably never write another thing professionally for a print publication and will spend the rest of my career â€“ such that it will be â€“ publishing online only.
“Why? Besides saving all those trees, of course â€“ which, let me start off the new year by being completely honest, never occurred to me until just this very second â€“ itâ€™s simple and obvious: The future of all media is digital going forward.
“As I always like to keep in mind about everything: Donâ€™t fight the trend.
“That might sound a bit glib to some, but I think itâ€™s an important thing to keep in mind as the fortunes of great newspaper companies continue the steady and unwavering declines of the last decade, in what feels a bit like a long and agonizing circling of the drain.
“So itâ€™s not exactly a brilliant move to see that and contemplate a move to higher groundâ€“it is simply common sense.”
