Web site for Alabama papers launches new business section

July 21, 2010

Al.com, the Internet site that includes news from the Birmingham News, Huntsville Times and Mobile Press-Register, has launched a newly designed section highlighting business news, information and new ways for local companies to post information about their employees, endeavors and events.

All three papers are owned by Advance Publications, the Newhouse property. Another Advance daily, The Oregonian, made a similar move earlier this year, creating a blog that allows companies to post their own news.

Dan Murtaught of the Press-Register writes, “The site, www.al.com/business, features reporting from the state’s three largest newspapers, the Press-Register, The Birmingham News and The Huntsville Times.

“It also includes headlines from other news and public relations wire services as well as a new al.com press release blog.

“Businesses can create or use an existing al.com account to submit press releases and photos, to make announcements such as moves, promotions and new hires. Businesses can also share videos and upcoming events with al.com visitors.

“‘We are pleased to be able to provide a new avenue for Alabama businesses to share news and announcements,’ said Cindy Martin, president and chief executive of al.com.”
