The Washington Post has promoted Jennifer Liberto to economics editor.

She had been deputy economics editor for the past three years.

Liberto previously was at NPR, where she was deputy business editor. She edited and co-managed a team of about 10 reporters and oversaw much of the network’s coverage of trade and the economy. Before assuming that role, she was acting executive producer of Weekend All Things Considered.

She previously worked at PoliticoCNN Money, the then-St. Petersburg Times and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Her coverage of the economy has won multiple awards, including a Peabody Award in 2010 for team coverage of the Gulf oil spill and a Society of American Business Editors and Writers award in 2011 for team coverage of the stock market plunge.

She graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism with a degree in journalism and Latin American history.
