Washington Post business editor Lori Montgomery, deputy business editor Damian Paletta and business audience strategy editor Maite Fernández Simon sent out the following on Tuesday:
We are delighted to announce that Rivan Stinson will be joining The Post’s Business Desk as Assistant Editor for Personal Finance, working with our legendary personal finance columnist, Michelle Singletary.
In this newly created position, Rivan will play a crucial role in promoting Michelle’s remarkable 25-year-old column, “The Color of Money,” finding fresh ways to showcase new columns and resurface timeless financial advice from Michelle’s deep archive of work. Building on Michelle’s long-standing community of devoted readers, Rivan will help find ways to reach new audiences and make this critical financial information accessible to a wider array of readers — particularly young people and people of color.
Rivan comes to us from Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, where she worked for more than six years, first as a fact-checker and then as a staff writer for its magazine covering credit, banking, insurance and other personal finance topics. She started her career as a freelance fact-checker and grammar hound working for an independent book publisher and a local monthly magazine in Michigan.
Rivan graduated from the University of Michigan in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in English. She lives in Maryland and is a self-taught photographer.
Please join us in welcoming Rivan to the newsroom. Her first day is Nov. 7.
