Washington Post economy and business editor David Cho and deputy business editor Zachary Goldfarb sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

We’re happy to announce that Ylan Mui will become our White House economic policy writer — responsible for covering the new administration’s budget and tax policies, the new president’s economic team, agencies such as Treasury and OMB, and other economic and financial issues facing the White House.

She takes on this critical beat after four years bringing a mix of authoritative and accessible writing to coverage of the Federal Reserve and the economy. She has written agenda-setting stories about the Fed during a tumultuous period — as well as America’s economic recovery, the changing reality of globalization, and many other topics that affect Americans’ livelihoods. She also reported from London after “Brexit” and Athens during the Greek fiscal crisis.

Ylan previously covered consumer finance, retail and Howard County schools. Originally from New Orleans, she started as an intern in Style. She lives with her husband, two children, two cats and a giant dog in Fairfax County.

In keeping with past tradition, Ylan will coordinate closely with colleagues on National but continue to report to the Business section. We will make announcements later about other changes to our Fed and economics team.

Ylan begins her new role immediately.
