Joanna Wessman, the publisher of the Sacramento Business Journal, has resigned her position to effective Feb. 17 to devote more time to promoting economic development in the region, according to a story on the paper’s site.

The story states, “Wessman, 59, succeeded longtime publisher Dan Kennedy in 2008 after serving 12 years as advertising director. A national search has begun to replace her.

“‘First as advertising director and later as publisher of the Business Journal, Joanna’s been an innovative leader,’ said Whitney Shaw, president and chief executive of American City Business Journals, the newspaper’s Charlotte-based parent company.

”Where many see the status quo and are comfortable with it, Joanna’s been willing to ask, ‘How can we be better?’ No matter what the next chapter in her life holds, I am very confident Joanna will find great success,’ he said.

“Wessman, a member of the Valley Vision board of directors, has long been active in local economic development and philanthropic efforts.”
