OLD Media Moves

Rothfeder out as editor of International Business Times

Jeffrey Rothfeder, the editor in chief of the International Business Times, will be leaving next month, reports Joe Pompeo of Capital New York.

Pompeo writes, “Sources familiar with the matter said Rothfeder will be out as of the end of January because his contract is up and he was unable to negotiate a new deal with the site’s owners at IBT Media.

“The eight-year-old company came to the attention of New York’s media elite when it bought Newsweek from Barry Diller’s IAC Corp. for an undisclosed sum this past summer. Since then, IBT has been pouring resources into Newsweek and recently announced plans to resurrect the title in print following its conversion a year ago to a digital-only title.

“Sources said Rothfeder’s departure has nothing to do with Newsweek and that there are as of now no plans to streamline the mastheads of the two publications, which have shared resources since they became siblings this past fall.”
