New deputy biz editor at Chicago Sun-Times

Her name is Polly Smith, and she replaced Michael Gillis, who joined the editorial board of Chicago’s No. 2 newspaper.

Smith had been a copy editor for the business section before her promotion.

Smith earned a B.A. degree in economics and English from Albion College in Michigan, and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York City. She worked for the Times of Northwest Indiana from 1994 to 2000, when she joined the Sun-Times, serving in various jobs, including real estate editor and most recently as a copy editor in the Business section.

Replacing Smith as copy editor is Angela Myers, who earned her B.A. in journalism from Howard University, Washington, D.C., before joining the Sun-Times in 1989.
