Shir Haberman has been named the new business editor of the Portsmouth Herald in New Hampshire, replacing Michael McCord, according to a story in Tuesday’s paper.

Shir Haberman“I am truly excited about being able to report on the dynamic and unique business community that exists here on the New Hampshire and Maine Seacoast,” Haberman said in the story. “With the demographic and physical changes that are taking place in this region, giving businesses in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors what they need to know in order to be successful in this new environment is a privilege and a challenge.”

In order to accomplish this goal, Haberman said in the story, he will focus primarily on what’s going on in the region, with a healthy sprinkling of the state, national and international news meaningful and interesting to local business readers. The result may be some changes to what has traditionally appeared on the business pages, he said.

“As the Herald’s managing editor, I was made aware every day that the paper’s niche is supplying local news, as well as relating regional, national and international news in a way that makes it meaningful to local readers,” he said. “It is a lesson I intend to bring to the Business section every day in every way.”
