Jerry Sullivan, the editor of the Los Angeles Business Journal, is leaving the paper.

Managing editor Henry Meier will become acting editor until a replacement is found. The changes are effective Nov. 2.

Sullivan became editor of the paper in June 2017. He previously had been editor of the Orange County Business Journal, a sister publication.

He founded the Los Angeles Garment & Citizen, which served neighborhoods throughout Downtown Los Angeles and surrounding districts from 2001 to 2010. He also has edited California Apparel News, Pacific Textile News and World Trade Magazine.

Here is an excerpt of a note Sullivan wrote to the staff on Friday:

This publication is quite different and better than it was 17 months ago, or 12 months ago, or six months ago or three months ago. That is a remarkable track record, and it’s been accomplished by all of you under challenging conditions.

We have restructured newsroom operations – yes, we now do more with less compared with prior eras.

We have boosted our digital presence enormously.

We have fixed our print mission firmly on the challenge of producing timely, accurate and relevant coverage that chronicles, celebrates and challenges the community of business we cover.

We have developed a new sense of team work, with folks covering one another where needed, regularly extending themselves beyond comfort zones  and everyone pitching in with ideas on every aspect of operations.
