International Business TimesThe International Business Times announced three additions to its New York newsroom on Monday.

Eric Markowitz will serve as senior writer for the technology team covering the deep web, the sharing economy and the many issues that lie at the intersection of technology and society. Prior to joining International Business Times, Markowitz reported on technology and business at Vocativ. He has also held positions at Vanity Fair, Inc. Magazine and Jaunt.

“In a year of aggressive expansion in our newsroom, Eric is going to help us tell stories that go beyond technology and shed light on how the world works, how our tastes are changing and the forces driving them,” said Peter S. Goodman, global editor-in-chief of International Business Times, in a statement. “He immediately elevates our long-form feature work and will allow us to start telling stories in increasingly engaging and sophisticated fashion.”

Owen Davis will work on the business team as financial writer covering Wall Street and its connections to everyday financial concerns like retirement planning, paying for college and securing housing. Davis previously was a researcher at Rolling Stone and his work has appeared in The Nation, Salon, Jacobin, AlterNet, Truthout, Waging Nonviolence and The Indypendent.

Cole Stangler joins the business team as staff writer covering labor and the workplace, focusing on the changing nature of the workplace and how people earn a living. A former staff writer at In These Times, Stangler’s work has also appeared in VICE, The New Republic, The Nation, The American Prospect and been cited in The New York Times.

“Our business team is emerging as a real center of activity with a staff that has doubled in the past six months alone,” added Goodman. “Owen’s coverage is going to demystify finance in a way that’s accessible to a general audience while Cole will delve into the changing labor landscape.”
