Columnist: Those moving markets are not talking on CNBC
October 22, 2006
Nashua Telegraph columnist Tony Paradiso makes an interesting observation in his Sunday column that the market pros who are being interviewed on CNBC are not the ones moving the market.
Paradiso said, “What I do know is markets go up, markets go down and the average person or talking head has no clue as to when or why. But the media morons must earn their pay, and they do so by regurgitating inane explanations for the market’s movements.
“Here’s a tip: The people who are most likely to know what direction the market is heading aren’t, by and large, giving interviews on CNBC.
“Do you know why? Because they’re busy moving markets, not talking about why markets move.
“And often it has nothing to do with reality. The pros sometimes move a market simply to make money.
“That is not to say they can move the market in any direction at any time. They can’t. But in times such as this, when the economic future is unclear, professionals dictate market direction.”
