Bloomberg makes changes to Latin America coverage

Bloomberg News editor in chief John Micklethwait sent out the following on Tuesday morning:

To All in Editorial & Research:

Emerging Markets

We are making some important changes to our structure in Latin America and our coverage of emerging markets more broadly.

Global imbalances fueled by rising interest rates and a stronger US dollar — coupled with the economic impacts of Russia’s war in Ukraine — have reinforced the need to focus our reporting on developing markets. As such we are recreating a dedicated emerging markets vertical and will be posting this week for an Executive Editor to lead this coverage in the Americas and EMEA. While the vision is global, the current structure in Asia will remain in place.

As part of the new group, Brazil Chief Julia Leite — long an advocate for markets coverage in her region — will become the Managing Editor for LatAm markets, based in Sao Paulo. We will also create an EM team in Europe and post a leadership role.

In addition, David Papadopoulos will become Executive Editor for the Markets Editing group globally. David, a two-decade Bloomberg veteran who set up the original enterprise editing hub in New York, will work closely with Managing Editors Michael Tsang, Lynn Thomasson and Hwee Ann Tan in their mission: marshalling editing expertise to the biggest stories, ensuring our vast markets remit is handled urgently and with flair and providing increased support for emerging markets. David, who will report to Chris Nagi, will work in close contact with all other markets EEs.

After more than six yeas as Managing Editor for Latin America, Dan Cancel has decided to apply his deep knowledge of the region to elevate our coverage as a Senior Reporter. He will write about wealth & business and will remain in Sao Paulo, reporting to Pierre Paulden. Mexico City Bureau Chief Nacha Cattan will also take on a new challenge as a Big Pharma Reporter on the Healthcare team in New York. We will also be posting shortly for an Executive Editor for Latin America, a new Brazil Chief and a new Mexico City Bureau Chief.
