bus_den_splashA new business news website will launch in Denver on Jan. 5, according to its founder.

Aaron Kremer, who started the business news site RichmondBizSense.com in Virginia in 2008, plans to compete against the Denver Business Journal and the Denver Post’s business section with BusinessDen.com.

He has hired two full-time reporters and is looking for a reporter to cover the business of outdoor recreation, such as ski resorts, gear companies, outfitters, and hotels. His Richmond, Va., newsroom is also looking for a commercial real estate reporter. The Denver newsroom will have a staff of five journalists, said Kremer.

“Denver is a fast-growing city that has less news coverage — especially local business news coverage — than even five years ago,” said Kremer in an email to Talking Biz News. “And at the same time, the region is getting tens of thousands of new residents each year, which means lots of real estate and general business news to hit.

“The news hole is bigger than ever, and there are fewer outlets chasing our niche.”

The Rocky Mountain News, the other daily newspaper in Denver, closed in 2009 and had a strong business news section.

The RichmondBizSense.com editorial staff now has seven people, and the site became profitable in 2009. The Richmond site has a daily email with more than 13,000 subscribers.
