Wall Street Journal editor in chief Matt Murray sent out the following announcement:

I’m delighted to share that Chief News Editor Jason Anders has agreed to become a Deputy Editor in Chief of The Wall Street Journal. Jason’s promotion is both a reflection and enhancement of the central role he already plays across the newsroom, as we continue our digital evolution and lay plans for further growth across the Journal and Dow Jones.

As you all know, Jason combines excellent news judgment and understanding of our mission with a deep grasp of the architecture and reach of the news operation and intimate knowledge and insight about where digital journalism is going. For years, in various roles, he has been central in helping map and implement the Journal’s steady trajectory from being primarily a print product to becoming a fully digital, multimedia brand. Jason will be central in guiding the newsroom as we enter a new era of growth and investment, expanding with new products and formats and types of coverage, while continuing to oversee the Hub where all of our work comes together.

Jason’s more than two decades at the Journal began at what was then quaintly known as The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition. He became one of the Journal’s first online reporters, covering the early days of online investing, before writing more broadly on technology and politics from New York and Washington. Since then, he has held a number of editing and senior leadership roles across the newsroom, including Business Editor and, most recently, Chief News Editor. Jason and his husband live in Brooklyn.

Jason of course will continue to work especially closely with Neal Lipschutz. And we will have more in coming weeks on new roles and enhancements as we firm up our foundation for growth.

For now, please join me in congratulating Jason on his promotion and thank him for taking on more as we chart our future course.

Matt
