Matt Slagle, the national technology and business reporter for the Associated Press, is leaving the wire service to become a public relations manager for Sony Online Entertainment, according to a release. It’s a company he covered.

Sony, if you’re unfamiliar with the gaming world, makes the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 systems, as well as the handheld PSP.

Matt Slagle plays the WiiSlagle had been based out of the AP’s Dallas brueau. His recent stories included reviews of video games out for the Christmas season and Dell Inc.’s share repurchase plan.

As the national technology and business reporter for the AP, Slagle covered industry features, financial and product news for Fortune 500 technology companies. More recently, he also led the AP’s national video game coverage, including reviews and industry features. Slagle, who holds a BA in Journalism from Indiana University, began his career in 1997 as an AP editorial assistant.
