Alabama paper considers changes to stock listings

July 9, 2006

The Montgomery Advertiser said in Sunday’s paper that it wants reader feedback on how to change its stock listings.

Executive Editor Wanda Lloyd wrote, “So what will we do with some of the space now devoted to daily stock listings? For one thing, all stocks won’t go away. As a local newspaper we pride ourselves in providing information of interest to our local readers, and we’ll do just that with stocks.

“While we now publish four fields of information – the ticker name, corporate name, market close and percent change – for thousands of stocks, this change will allow us to expand our listing of stocks that people in the tri-county area really care about.

“For example, we now list 27 stocks of local interest. We will soon be able to offer dozens more stocks of local interest with different information five days a week. Now we’ll have space to give readers weekly, quarterly and annual trends, high and low bids, dividends, ratios, volumes and so much more on stocks they really care about following.”
