OLD Media Moves

Acting biz editor named at Atlanta paper

March 1, 2007

Dorrie Toney, a former assistant business editor at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, has been named acting business editor at the paper, according to a memo from deputy managing editor Mike Lupo.

Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionToney replaces Mark Braykovich, who left the paper last month to take a public relations job with a law firm in Atlanta. She had been readership editor.

Lupo wrote, “With so much going on, I’m happy to report that Dorrie Toney will move to the Business Department as acting business editor during the reorganization of the newsroom. She’ll work closely with Deputy Business Editor Henry Unger, who will continue to oversee the daily journalism of the department and the daily section.

“Dorrie’s background and familiarity in Business, and Henry’s continued role overseeing coverage, should ensure that the department remains as strong as it was under Mark Braykovich. Dorrie will also represent the department at the content editors’ meetings, which she regularly attends now in her current position. Dorrie and Henry will divide up the other meetings as they see fit.

“Mark’s departure was a terrible loss, especially at a time when some things are in flux, but the AJC is charting a bold course to ensure its future online and in print. With the strong journalistic skills of Henry and Dorrie, I have great confidence Business will arrive there in good shape.

“And continue doing such fine work all along the way.”
