Yes! Magazine is  looking to commission writers for solutions-oriented Indigenous rights pieces. Interested in reported pieces (particularly from Indigenous journalists).

ABOUT THE COMPANY

YES! Magazine is a non-profit publication that supports people’s active engagement in building a just and sustainable world. It reframes the biggest problems of our time in terms of their solutions, and aims to outline a path forward with in-depth analysis, tools for citizen engagement, and stories about real people working for a better world.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Rolling acceptance and if it’s after my contract ends I can pass the pitches on to the regular editor. I’m focused on environment and Indigenous rights, but you are welcome to submit on other topics through the general submission inbox.

My goal: Your voice comes through. Your expertise is respected and presented. We have a a relationship where we both come away with deeper insights.

Yes! pays digitally (direct deposit or Paypal) and thus, I’ve been told, promptly (<2 weeks is normal). I will do everything in my power to ensure prompt payments. (I, too, am a freelancer.)

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION

  • Write a short introduction about yourself
  • Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
  • Attach links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.

COMPENSATION

  • Pay: 40 cents/word for reported pieces, although I’m also looking for perspective and opinion (stipend offered). I try to make the editing process really humane (e.g., comparable to pay rate and also supportive/engaging for the writer).
