Yahoo Finance seeks a breaking biz news reporter

The Yahoo Finance team is looking for a sharp, fast-moving Breaking Business News Reporter to join our newsroom and help us deliver timely, insightful coverage of the biggest stories moving markets every weekday.

This role is perfect for a journalist with an interest in financial markets, strong news judgment, and a passion for breaking down complex economic and corporate developments for a broad audience. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, love collaborating with editors and teammates, and want to play a key role in shaping how Yahoo Finance covers the market’s biggest moments, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

  • Work in our New York City office at least 3 days per week
  • Move quickly to cover the biggest, breaking stories moving markets every weekday
  • Coverage will include corporate earnings, corporate news, trending business news, economic data releases, and other reports or announcements moving markets
  • Deliver clean copy on tight deadlines
  • Work closely with editors to test, innovate, and refine story selection, structure, and tone while emphasizing SEO best practices
  • Contribute to our daily markets live blog coverage, other key event coverage like Fed meetings, annual shareholder meetings, as well as contribute to our flagship daily newsletter, The Morning Brief
  • Cultivate industry sources to bring exclusive stories to Yahoo Finance’s audience

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience covering or working in financial markets
  • Expert understanding of financial markets and industry jargon
  • Strong news judgment and an ability to work and think quickly
  • Strong knowledge of key economic data releases and earnings calendar
  • Fluency in digesting and interpreting economic data and corporate earnings reports
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Track record of success in a fast-paced newsroom or similarly competitive environment
  • B.A. or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to work in person in our New York City office at least three days per week and as coverage needs require
