The successful candidate will bring deep knowledge of the tech industry and strong reporting skills to one of our most important beats. Heard on the Street writers must be able to quickly analyze important news and also write more in-depth, well-reported pieces of commentary. We are seeking a deeply sourced writer who can add value to the Journal’s tech coverage and isn’t afraid to take a point of view.
The beat will likely focus on software, cybersecurity and social media companies, along with some of the tech giants, but it can be tailored to a reporter’s areas of expertise. Knowledge of accounting and corporate finance are important, as is a proven ability to build sources who can help produce scoops of news and insight.
The new position is part of an expansion of “Heard on the Street,” which will include more coverage areas, more ambitious visuals and more deeply reported columns and series.
The position reports to Ken Brown, the Heard’s global editor in New York, and will work closely with Dan Gallagher, the Heard’s technology columnist.
