The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Training & Outreach Programming Coordinator who will be responsible for supporting training and outreach initiatives for the newsroom.
The coordinator will play a key role in the implementation of training and outreach strategy; support the larger efforts of the Managing Editor’s Office to ensure that the newsroom is diverse, inclusive and welcoming; and work creatively and ambitiously to support equipping journalists with skills they need to excel and create exceptional journalism for which the Journal is known. The job involves working collaboratively across the Managing Editor’s Office and newsroom, as well as being an ambassador more broadly for the Journal newsroom.
Reporting to the Assistant Managing Editor for Training & Outreach, the Training & Outreach Programming Coordinator will:
- Lead implementation of internal and external training programs, including regular newsroom training sessions and new-hire orientations.
- Lead the newsroom’s program for interns, who are selected by the AME-Talent and Recruiting. This includes supporting and setting up training, activities and mentoring efforts.
- Track and provide monthly reports on training feedback for survey data and engagement with newsroom staff.
- Attend and assist in the Journal’s efforts in journalism conferences.
- Ensure that all training and outreach initiatives support goals for an inclusive and diverse newsroom. This may involve identifying ways in which our newsroom can improve in these areas through training and outreach.
- Coordinate visits by outside groups or individuals interested in news media and the Journal newsroom.
The ideal candidate will have one to three years of journalism experience, working knowledge of HTML, and a comfort level with researching and executing on innovative ways to deliver and distribute training to our digital and global audience of journalists.
The role is based in New York, and some travel is expected for journalism conferences and outreach programs.
