WSJ seeks State Department reporter

The Washington bureau of The Wall Street Journal is seeking a staff reporter to join its national security group to cover the State Department and track U.S. foreign policy with countries and groups of countries around the world.

This reporter must be knowledgeable about the world and the U.S. role in the world, but also able to decipher and explain U.S. policy shifts and decisions involving issues and foreign crises wherever they may occur and whenever they may arise.

He or she also will need sources who can help piece together the evolution of key decision-making milestones and will need to be able to track administration policy formulation. Stories foreshadowing future challenges for U.S. foreign policy, national security and their political dimensions (after all, it’s Washington) are among those that we eagerly await.

Functions will include monitoring State Department news briefings; traveling with the secretary of State; covering some congressional oversight hearings and keeping track of the interplay between the State Department and White House.

The reporter also will work closely with a collegial group of staff writers covering the Pentagon, U.S. intelligence, the White House and WSJ foreign bureaus.
