WSJ seeks senior professional editor in London

The Wall Street Journal seeks an an experienced business journalist to edit specialized content that targets professional audiences.

The person in this London-based position will be primarily responsible for editing newsletters that are published under the WSJ Pro banner and also several verticals focused on C-Suite roles.

This editor must have a keen understanding of the particular needs of business and financial professionals, and be capable of producing content that helps readers understand their industries and do their jobs more effectively. This editor will also be responsible for editing daily stories and features from all Professional Product groups as needed. This editor will help set the daily workflow priorities for the New York Professional editing team and hand off tasks appropriately.

The person in this position will be an accomplished line editor who can spot mistakes and also isn’t afraid to flip the structure of a story or ask important questions when there are holes. A full grasp of grammar, spelling and style rules, compliance with standards guidelines, and factual accuracy are critical. The right team player should have business editing experience in areas such as corporate, finance or technology news. This editor must also demonstrate an understanding of, or eagerness to delve into, the various topics covered by our Professional teams — logistics, corporate finance, technology, risk, bankruptcy and private equity.

This position is based in London and reports to the Deputy Professional Products Editor.

Understanding of the mission of WSJ Pro and how our journalism should be selected and presented in line with those values

Exercises strong news judgment in headline writing, editing and fast-paced publishing

Knows how to edit for accuracy and essential details while expediting publishing

Proficient in numeracy, draws on deep financial knowledge, and is confident analyzing the data behind a story in real time

Demonstrates the ability to edit for grammar, style, sense, jargon, accuracy, structure, balance and fairness

Upholds WSJ standards and ethics

Digital and social media skills

Easily adjusts to editing on different systems and platforms and various formats and styles

Prioritizes tasks and time while handling multiple responsibilities

Meets deadlines

Collaborates with reporters and editors from other groups

Understands workflow beyond his or her own needs

Flexible in changing/handing off tasks

General awareness of how a newsroom works

Functions well within a team
