The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires is seeking an enterprising reporter to cover one of the world’s most important agricultural commodity exporters: New Zealand.
Based in Wellington and reporting to the Australia bureau, the reporter will cover all aspects of New Zealand’s economy, business and finance sectors. He or she will also have responsibility for the Pacific islands.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in writing for a real-time audience, while demonstrating an ability to write broadly—for all platforms and sections of the WSJ—about subjects as diverse as interest rates and dairy. New Zealand has a strong newswires following, but has proved to be fertile soil for colorful and in-depth features that zero in on core topics in business, finance and politics. Dairy is an important industry, with New Zealand accounting for around 30% of global exports. In addition, the country is a major supplier of lamb, wool and wine. The kiwi dollar ranks among the 10 most heavily traded currencies in the world.
The position would suit anyone seeking exposure to the Asian growth story and the successful candidate would be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues globally.
